President of Georgia Elected. CEC Recognizes Elections as Valid

Georgia has completed its first indirect presidential elections in the country's history. The Central Election Commission has recognized them as valid.

The only candidate elected as the new head of state was former football player and ex-member of parliament Mikheil Kavelashvili.

According to the TASS agency, his candidacy was put forward by the ruling party "Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia".

As we saw, and the public itself observed the entire election process via live broadcast, the elections took place without any interference, said the head of the local Central Election Commission, Giorgi Kalandarishvili.

As for the voting process itself, the Electoral College took part in it.

It was represented by members of parliament, members of the Supreme Councils of Adjara and Abkhazia, as well as members of municipal authorities.

The only candidate, a former footballer for the Georgian national team, Tbilisi Dynamo and British Manchester City, received 224 votes out of 300 possible.

Thus, Mikheil Kavelashvili became the sixth president of Georgia.
