The Moldovan government has asked the country's parliament to introduce a state of emergency in the republic.

The ministers are initiating the launch of such a regime on December 16 and want it to last for 60 days.

The Cabinet of Ministers cites the discovered “threat of a humanitarian crisis” in connection with the termination of Russian gas transit through Ukraine as the reason for this proposal.

The request to introduce a state of emergency is recorded in a government decree, TASS reports .

To approve an appeal to parliament to introduce a state of emergency for 60 days, starting from December 16, Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Serebryan read out the approved document.

According to him, the coming energy crisis could be more serious than the crisis two years ago, when the country experienced power outages.

Serebryan fears that a new crisis could lead to a humanitarian catastrophe in Transnistria.

There, the politician noted, local residents risk “being left without both gas and electricity.”

The deputy head of government added: if there is a shortage of energy resources and the power plant stops, then both banks of the Dniester will be able to receive electricity only from Romania.

And the neighbor, he pointed out, herself encountered an energy problem during the period he had previously indicated.
