In Thailand, a 12-meter Buddha statue fell on people. Unfortunately, there were casualties – a monk died.

It is known that this sculpture was recently completed. They say that the collapse occurred because the concrete had not had time to harden completely.

In particular, such information came from the Seventh National Television Channel of the Kingdom, as reported by MIA "Russia Today".

According to available information, the tragedy occurred on December 2 in a Buddhist temple on the banks of the Mekong River in Amnat Charene province (bordering Laos).

The day before, a 9-meter concrete Buddha was installed there on a 3-meter pedestal in the shape of a lotus cup.

On Monday, the statue suddenly collapsed, falling on the monks who were standing at its foot at the time.

As a result, one of them died, five more were injured. One monk and the monastery dog managed to run out of the affected area, they were not injured.

Local residents say the collapse was caused by the anger of spirits who were unhappy that the erection of the statue disturbed the souls of people who lived on the site of the monastery several centuries ago.

Local citizens, prone to superstition, believe that in this way the spirits carried out an act of revenge.

The authorities and police have a different version of what happened: according to them, the fall could have been caused by the fact that the formwork and part of the scaffolding were removed from the statue earlier than expected.

And the cement, which had not fully hardened, cracked, which led to the collapse.

In this regard, the TV channel reports: cement was poured into the form on November 30 and December 1.

As for the formwork and part of the scaffolding, they were removed from the statue just a day after the concrete was poured.
