On November 21, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Galant.
The ICC press service reported this, as reported by TUT NOVOSTI .
According to the ICC press service, the warrants were issued for crimes against humanity and war crimes committed in Palestine from at least October 8 last year to May 20 this year.
The ICC has rejected Israel's arguments challenging the court's jurisdiction to issue warrants and hear cases on the situation in Palestine as a whole.
As the ICC explained, recognition of the court's jurisdiction by Israel is not required, since the court exercises its jurisdiction on the basis of the territorial jurisdiction of Palestine.
In addition, the court added, countries do not have the right to challenge the ICC's jurisdiction before an arrest warrant is issued.
The ICC Office of the Prosecutor opened an investigation in Palestine in 2021.
On May 20 this year, ICC prosecutor Karim Khan requested arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Galant. Israel denied the charges and refused to cooperate with the court.
