In France, prosecutors have requested a five-year prison term for the head of the National Rally party, Marine Le Pen.
The politician is accused of fictitiously hiring party assistants in the European Parliament.
In this regard, the prosecution requests that those involved in such fraud be deprived of the opportunity to be elected to government bodies.
Specifically, with regard to Le Pen, he insists on a 5-year prison term (three years suspended, two years with an electronic bracelet) and ineligibility to run for office for 5 years.
In addition, the prosecutor's office considers it necessary to fine the National Union 2 million euros.
The event was reported by MIA "Russia Today", noting that Le Pen called the sentence demanded for her "cruel and excessive".
The prosecutor's office is excessive in its demands, especially regarding the immediate execution of the sentence against all defendants, the politician said.
She hopes that the court will not do what the prosecutor wants, but will “listen to all our arguments.”
Le Pen also informed journalists that the requested sentence did not come as a surprise to her personally.
