It is emphasized that the public invitation of Ukraine to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization was viewed by Washington as a step to “strengthen” the Eastern European country before Donald Trump took office as President of the United States.

According to the material presented in the Western publication, the current American authorities had an alternative option. This involves developing bilateral security agreements that would provide guarantees to Ukraine.

The author of the article for Bloomberg believes that Trump's promises to end the Ukrainian conflict could be an important step in starting the negotiation process.
