Parliamentary elections in Uzbekistan declared valid
Elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Parliament of Uzbekistan have been declared valid.
This was announced at a briefing by the deputy head of the Central Election Commission of the Republic, Bakhrom Kuchkarov.
His statement is quoted by MIA "Russia Today" .
How are parliamentary elections held in Uzbekistan?
According to Uzbek law, 33% of registered voters must vote for the elections to be considered valid.
According to Kuchkarov, the turnout threshold was exceeded by 13:00 (11:00 Moscow time). As of 17:00 (15:00 Moscow time), the turnout was 71.52%, with more than 14.2 million people voting.
Elections to the lower house of the parliament of Uzbekistan are being held for the first time using a mixed majoritarian-proportional model.
75 of the 150 deputies are elected from party lists, the remaining 75 from single-mandate constituencies.
There are about 20 million people registered in the republic's single electronic list of voters for these elections. Polling stations will close at 20:00 (18:00 Moscow time).
