The thermal power plant failure occurred on Friday, October 18, at 11:00 local time (in Belarus at that time it was 18:00).

A corresponding message was published on the social network page of one of the Cuban agencies.

There was a complete shutdown of the National Electric Power System, MIA Rossiya Segodnya quotes a translated statement from the Cuban Ministry of Energy and Mining.

It is emphasized that at the moment, Electrounion is taking measures to ensure that the operation of the country's energy system is restored.

Statement by the President of Cuba

The head of the Cuban state, Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, stressed that the country's leadership prioritizes correcting the current situation.

The statesman called the incident a “very sensitive” issue for Cuba.

It is worth emphasizing that on October 17, Diaz-Canel instructed the head of the government of the island state to inform citizens about the emergency in the energy sector.

At the time, the Cuban leader said the situation had become more complicated due to increased sanctions by the United States, which had made it difficult to import fuel and other important resources.
