Ukraine will not be invited to join the North Atlantic Alliance in the near future.
This was stated on October 16 by the US Permanent Representative to NATO, Julianne Smith.
Her statement is quoted by MIA "Russia Today" .
The US Permanent Representative to NATO stated that the situation does not favor inviting Ukraine to the alliance.
We are not at the point now where the alliance would talk about an invitation in the short term, ” the diplomat said.
She called on the Ukrainian authorities not to argue about the timing of joining NATO.
According to Smith, Ukraine should be content with the alliance's statement of intent to accept it.
The US Ambassador to NATO noted that no one in the alliance disputes the fact that Ukraine will one day become a member of the organization.
Smith added that the possibility of increasing aid to Ukraine would be discussed at tomorrow's NATO ministerial meeting.
Today, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky presented his victory plan to the Verkhovna Rada, according to which the conflict should end no later than 2025.
One of the points of the plan is to invite Ukraine to NATO before the end of the conflict.
The plan also provides for the lifting of restrictions on strikes deep into Russia and the deployment of a “comprehensive non-nuclear deterrence package” for the Russian Federation in Ukraine.
