Typhoon Kraton hits Taiwan, hundreds injured

Typhoon Kraton has hit the southwest coast of Taiwan, with hundreds of casualties reported so far.

Eyewitnesses report flying garbage cans and roofs, broken shop windows, and downed power lines.

Wind speeds reach 150 kilometers per hour. About 55,000 homes are left without electricity.

The media reports that due to the typhoon that has hit the island, classes have been suspended in schools and businesses have been shut down in 22 counties and in southern Taiwan.

Due to the raging natural disaster, 211 flights were cancelled at Taoyuan International Airport.

Local authorities declared October 2 and 3 as non-working days.
