Stoltenberg hands over NATO Secretary General duties to former Dutch PM

This Tuesday, October 1, 2024, an important procedure began at NATO Headquarters (Brussels).

The powers of the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance are transferred.

This means that Norwegian citizen Jens Stoltenberg is officially leaving his post.

The military-political bloc will then be led by former Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte.

As reported by MIA "Russia Today", the procedure for the transfer of powers began at nine o'clock in the morning (ten o'clock Belarusian time).

The first actions were the laying of wreaths by the gentlemen named. Then they made short statements for journalists.

It is expected that at 11 a.m. Minsk time, 65-year-old Stoltenberg will open a meeting of the North Atlantic Council dedicated to the change of leadership.

Afterwards, 57-year-old Rutte will have to close the event in his capacity as the new Secretary General.

It is known that the latter has planned his first press conference as the head of the Alliance. It is scheduled for 12:30 Belarusian time.

Let us add that Jens Stoltenberg has served as NATO Secretary General for the past ten years.
