The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced the start of a limited ground operation in southern Lebanon.

The purpose of these raids in the border zone is said to be the destruction of military facilities associated with Hezbollah.

Ground forces are supported by artillery and combat aircraft, striking designated targets.

Statement from the military

Several hours ago, the IDF began limited, localized and targeted raids, based on precise intelligence, against Hezbollah terrorist targets and infrastructure in southern Lebanon, MIA Rossiya Segodnya quotes the Israeli military as saying.

Earlier, the media reported that the new stage of Tel Aviv's operation in Lebanon was approved by the Israeli military-political cabinet.

It was also written that some Israeli ministers condemned the “leaks about the maneuver” from the US after Washington was notified of Tel Aviv’s corresponding plans.

Later, the Israeli Defense Minister discussed this operation with Pentagon Chief Lloyd Austin.

US position

The US Department of Defense said in a statement that the parties agreed that it was necessary to “dismantle attack infrastructure along the border.”

The rationale was that this would ensure that Hezbollah would not be able to carry out attacks on northern Israeli regions, similar to what happened on October 7 last year.

At the same time, Austin advocates resolving the issue through diplomatic means to ensure that civilians on both sides of the border can return home safely.

The IDF previously declared part of the territory along the border with Lebanon a closed military zone.

At the same time, the media reported massive artillery fire on the border areas of Lebanon from the Israeli side.
