The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell has called an emergency meeting of EU foreign ministers.
The reason for holding the extraordinary event is said to be the escalation of the situation in Lebanon.
The escalation is linked to the assassination of the leader of the Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah.
An emergency meeting is planned in the format of a video conference, MIA "Russia Today" reports with reference to the official representative of the EU foreign policy service Peter Stano.
In light of the deteriorating situation, the High Representative has convened foreign ministers for an extraordinary foreign affairs council via videoconference this evening, the diplomat said.
According to him, the situation in Lebanon will be discussed at the upcoming event.
Regarding the assassination of Nasrallah, he noted that Brussels is “extremely concerned about the military confrontation between Israel and Lebanon.”
The hearing is scheduled for five o'clock in the evening (six o'clock in the evening Belarusian time) on September 30.
