The United States is counting the damage from the impact of the powerful hurricane Helene that recently hit the country.

Information on the number of victims of the disaster is constantly updated. At the moment, 116 citizens are known to have died.

Local media also report that some settlements have been wiped off the face of the earth.

Hurricane Helene has claimed the lives of at least 116 people and caused widespread destruction, MIA Rossiya Segodnya quotes a report from the CBS News channel.

According to the latter, information about hurricane victims came from six southern states of the country.

At the moment, the largest number of victims of the natural disaster is in North Carolina - 46 people.

Hurricane Helene killed 27 residents in South Carolina and 25 in Georgia.

In the state of Florida, which was the first to be hit by the disaster, the death toll currently stands at 13.

At least four residents were killed in Tennessee, and another person died in Virginia.

Preliminary estimates from AccuWeather suggest that total damage from the hurricane could range from $95 billion to $110 billion.

According to information from the monitoring service Find Energy, almost 2.08 million residents in the affected regions of the country remain without power.
