Hurricane Helene hits US: dead, millions without power

An extremely powerful hurricane, Helene, hit the southeastern United States of America on the night of Friday, September 27.

Unfortunately, the most powerful natural disaster in the last 170 years also resulted in human casualties: local media reported at least three deaths.

In addition, millions of people were left without power, most of all in the states of Georgia and Florida.

The MIA "Russia Today" reports on the strike of "Helen" with reference to the CNN television channel.

Experts have assigned the hurricane a category four (it has now weakened to a category one).

According to meteorologists, the severe elements hit the mainland of the country at approximately 11:10 p.m. (around 6:10 a.m. Friday, Belarusian time).

The hurricane then reached the mouth of the Ocilla River in Florida.

Later, state Governor Ron DeSantis reported that one local resident was killed when a road sign fell on his car.

The head of the region warned that the number of victims of the powerful hurricane could increase.

In another state, Georgia, two people were killed by a tornado, the occurrence of which is associated with the approach of "Helen."

According to experts' estimates, about 1,300,000 households were left without power in the region, and over 1.1 million homes in Florida.

The hurricane is also reported to have caused severe flooding in Mexico.
