Explosion rocks historic center of Cologne

An explosion thundered in the historical center of the popular tourist German city of Cologne (North Rhine-Westphalia) on the morning of September 16.

The entire central district is cordoned off by police officers, as reported by the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger newspaper.

As TASS reports , citing information from local law enforcement, the incident took place on Hohenzollernring Street between Rudolfplatz Square and Ehrenstrasse Street.

For now, that's all that's known about the incident. There's no information yet on what exactly exploded, whether anyone was hurt, or whether there was any damage.

However, some media outlets report that, according to preliminary data, no one was hurt.

Other German publications, citing the police, write that the explosion occurred at approximately 05:50 (06:50 Belarusian time).

Eyewitnesses say that a fire started after the explosion, but rescuers reported that by the time they arrived at the scene there was nothing left to put out.

Cologne police told the press that the area where the explosion occurred has been cordoned off and the investigation is ongoing.
