More than 100,000 French people took to the streets of cities, including the capital, to publicly express their disagreement with the policies pursued by Emmanuel Macron.
The protest was organised by the country's left-wing forces, who intended to seek the resignation of the president of the republic.
According to their data, a total of approximately 110,000 citizens took part in the demonstrations.
They cite this figure, citing information from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, reports the TASS agency.
Local media report that the largest demonstration was recorded in Paris – according to authorities, about 26,000 people took to the streets of the capital.
But according to information from the leader of the “France Unsubordinated” party, Mathilde Pano, the protest action in Paris attracted 160,000 citizens.
She says that in France as a whole, the number of people who protested last Saturday, September 7, was around 300,000.
In addition to Paris, mass marches were observed in Nice, Marseille, Nantes, Rennes and some other major cities of the country.
Participants in these events accuse the head of state of a “forceful coup” and of violating the principles of democracy.
They believe Macron should appoint Lucie Castet, the candidate proposed by the left-wing New Popular Front alliance, as prime minister.
Accordingly, the protesters expressed their dissatisfaction with the appointment of Michel Barnier, a representative of the center-right party "The Republicans", to the post of head of government.
They are unhappy because they believe that this state of affairs ensures greater influence for the right-wing National Rally party.
In such conditions, the founder of “Unsubordinated France,” Jean-Luc Mélenchon, declared the advent of the “right of the strongest” in the country.
In this regard, he called on supporters to wage a "long-term struggle" against the policies of Emmanuel Macron.
By the way. On August 31, a few days before the announcement of the new prime minister's name, his party initiated the procedure for removing Macron from power.
