Germany will transfer another 17 IRIS-T air defense systems to Ukraine; deliveries will begin this year.

This information was announced on September 4 by the head of the German government, Olaf Scholz, during a visit to the Air Force base near Kiel.

The German Chancellor's statement is reported by the German television channel N-TV.

How Scholz announced the transfer of 17 IRIS-T to Kyiv

Scholz reported that Berlin has ordered an additional 9 IRIS-T SLS (short-range) and 8 IRIS-T SLM (medium-range) installations for Kyiv.

According to the head of the German government, Ukraine will receive 4 installations this year.

Two systems of each type will be delivered this year, the rest – from 2025, the German Chancellor said.

The Bloomberg agency, citing an unnamed German official, clarifies that Ukraine will receive all 17 installations in 2026.

Germany ranks second in terms of arms supplies to Ukraine after the United States.

To date, Berlin has allocated funds for military support for Ukraine and has committed to future spending in the amount of approximately 28 billion euros.

The agreement on the German budget for next year provides for the provision of military aid to Ukraine in the amount of 4 billion euros, which is half as much as this year.
