What you can't do with beds where tomatoes grow: there will be fewer tomatoes than greens

Growing tomatoes on your own plot is, admittedly, quite a troublesome business.

If you expect to get a bountiful harvest of vegetables, then it is worth learning from other summer residents. They told about their mistakes, due to which more greenery than tomatoes grew in their tomato beds.

1. The soil in the greenhouse for this crop should not be too rich in nutrients.

For this reason, do not even think about adding manure (even in the fall) or feeding the crop with cow dung during the growing season.

2. For the first 2-3 weeks after planting, especially if it was done early, you cannot water the tomatoes.

The water that was poured into the holes will be enough for them to take root without problems. And thanks to this small restriction in water, the roots will only begin to master the soil more actively.

It is worth limiting watering throughout the first half of the growing season until the fruits begin to set on the first cluster.

But please, don't go overboard - you can't let the soil in the beds dry out completely. This can lead to the plants stopping growing and their flowers falling off.

You can increase the watering rate when the fruits begin to fill out en masse.

To determine the soil moisture level, take a handful of soil from a depth of 10-15 cm and squeeze it in your hands. If the lump retains its shape, this indicates sufficient moisture; if it disintegrates, it’s time to grab a watering can.

3. Try not to overfeed tomatoes with nitrogen. This requirement applies to all stages of vegetation.

After all, it is no secret that fattening plants are engaged exclusively in the growth of green mass - they postpone the setting of fruits for later.
