The very first root crop is given by radishes. The unpretentious vegetable does not create problems, but does not grow on its own.

Only those who have mastered the basics of agricultural technology can count on a rich harvest of radishes.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", a scientist, agronomist and landscape designer, told us what radishes like.

Radishes have the same requirements as most root vegetables, but they also have their own individual preferences.

Tricks for growing radishes

Firstly, radishes love light and breathable soil.

Therefore, the bed should be prepared in advance, so that later you don’t have to loosen the soil unnecessarily. The vegetable doesn’t like it.

In heavy soil the harvest will be poor.

But you need to mulch the radish bed. It is best to use straw.

Secondly, feeding and active application of fertilizers with an emphasis on nitrogen only spoils everything.

There is also no need to add manure, humus, chicken droppings and other organic matter to the soil when sowing.

Because of this, the tops will grow, not the root crops.

If the fruits do set, they will be hard, fibrous and hollow. And all this is due to organic matter and excess nitrogen.

Only if the radish does not grow can you add potassium and phosphorus, but not later than when 1-2 leaves appear.

For example, you can add potassium monophosphate (7 g per 10 liters of water) or complex additives.

Thirdly, radishes need to be covered, but not from the cold, but from excess light and high temperatures.

Otherwise, the plant may shoot up.
