Should you cover your thuja for the winter: yes and no
Summer residents who want to add greenery and thereby make their plot even more beautiful often think about planting thuja.
This coniferous plant has many advantages: it is unpretentious, resistant to frost and drought, and is also able to purify the air from harmful substances.
Thuja is suitable for various purposes: creating hedges, borders and single plantings.
But before you go to the nursery to buy a thuja seedling, it is worth familiarizing yourself with the basic rules for caring for this plant.
Of course, it needs watering, feeding and pruning, but there is something else that every gardener should do before winter sets in.
If you have only recently acquired a young thuja, you should spend the first two years after planting it to cover it.
To do this in the fall, when the thermometer begins to drop below four degrees Celsius, wrap the crowns from bottom to top in agrofibre. Burlap will also do - in both cases, you need to wrap the plant in 2-3 layers.
To prevent anything from happening to the protection, secure it with rope along the entire height of the plant.
It is allowed to take off the shelter in the spring, when the snow has completely melted.
According to experienced plant growers, adult trees do not need to be covered – they survive the winter well without any additional measures.
