September is the best time to plant purchased peonies in your garden.

If you want these beautiful and fragrant flowers to become a real decoration of your garden, listen to the advice on their correct planting.

The root system of high-quality planting material is usually in a moist environment, ideally surrounded by moss, which provides protection, retains water and allows air to pass through.

Moss, of course, needs to be removed and the roots examined. Thin roots develop faster, which is important for autumn planting, since in the cold season, suction roots are formed.

If planting is done in the spring, difficulties with development are possible, since the buds begin to grow earlier and can use up the resources stored in the roots.

The root system of the peony that is planned to be planted should be carefully examined to identify possible damage. If any is found, they can be trimmed and then powdered with a fungicide.

The same preparation is added to the hole to prevent root rot.

Dry shoots should also be trimmed - they are simply not needed. At this point, the preparation can be considered complete.

If you find that the peony roots have dried out, leave them to soak in a stimulant solution, for example, Aminosil, 50 ml per bucket of water. The seedlings should stay here for about 10 minutes.

You can find recommendations from flower growers regarding the dimensions of the planting hole as 60 x 60 x 60 cm, but this is only relevant for heavy soils.

On fertile soils a smaller hole will be enough. The soil should be compacted and watered, otherwise the peony may deepen, which, of course, is not desirable.
