Due to the fact that the main heat-loving crops have to be grown here, the soil quickly becomes depleted, and sometimes pests, bacteria and fungi settle in it.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication BelNovosti, an agronomist and landscape designer, told us which green manure crops to sow in a greenhouse after tomatoes.
As is known, with the help of green manure, you can restore the soil, deal with pests and pathogens, and at the same time stop the growth of weeds.
Why after tomatoes
Special attention should be paid to this crop. It is important to avoid accumulation of harmful substances in the soil, as well as the occurrence of late blight.
The pathogen overwinters well in the soil, and the disease can also spread through seeds.
Selection of green manure
Firstly, the crop must restore the soil structure, saturate it with nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium and magnesium.
Secondly, to fight weeds, and thirdly, to protect against diseases and pests.
Therefore, the following crops are chosen.
1. Legumes – sow in mid-September. Not only peas but also vetch are suitable. They saturate the soil with nitrogen well.
2. Oats will help with potassium deficiency and make the soil looser.
3. Spring rape restores the lack of phosphorus.
4. Mustard is a well-known soil healer. The plant suppresses the activity of late blight pathogens.
