The famous breeder, author of many cultures, academician Ivan Michurin believed that black currants can bear fruit for decades.

But provided the plant is properly cared for, then it will produce a bountiful harvest.

The essence of this approach to growing this crop is the competent completion of several stages.

The first is the choice of variety. It should be as close as possible to the growing conditions.

The second stage is natural growth. In the first four years, we let the plant develop naturally, mastering the space around it.

This means that during this period there is no need to cut, shorten, artificially shape, etc.

It is necessary to feed and water the plant well, remove dried branches, collect the entire harvest, and leave nothing on the branches.

By the way, during this period there is no need to treat the plant with anything. It grows on its own and develops immunity.

The third stage is the formation of the bush. In the 5th year, we do the first full pruning - in early spring or late autumn.

We cut off half of the length of all the branches. The bush will grow much more intensively next year.

The fourth stage is thinning. It is necessary because in the 6th year of its existence the currant grows powerfully.

We do the procedure in winter: we thin out young shoots that are too close to each other or in the same direction.

We choose one, the most powerful one, and leave the other new ones unchanged. We cut the old ones in half again.

Important: this year the plant should have more than 20 branches.

The fifth stage is annual rejuvenation.

Seventh year of life. The plant does not age, because every year we cut the old branches by half, and thin out the new ones.

The bush continues to please with an abundant harvest.

Earlier we talked about why you should sprinkle eggshells on cucumbers.
