According to experienced gardeners, the poor raspberry harvest can be explained by two common mistakes that summer residents make due to inexperience at the end of the season.
You need to be very careful when applying fertilizers in August. If you don't apply the most suitable fertilizers, there will be few berries in the new season.
Let's find out what you shouldn't feed raspberries with.
As already mentioned, this mistake is made in August, when nitrogen additives or organic matter are added to the raspberries.
Because of this, the shoots of the bush may freeze, since their lignification is poor.
It makes sense to apply nitrogen to raspberries no later than the end of July. Only in the southern regions can this be done in the first half of August.
The reason is that raspberries begin to actively grow green mass, which does not have time to become woody and dies when cold weather sets in.
And because fruit buds are being formed at the same time, some of the nutrition will be taken away by the growing shoots. As a result, the harvest will only get worse.
Fertilizers such as humus, cow dung or bird droppings only make sense to apply in the spring.
And in August, organic matter, as well as mineral nitrogen supplements, will cause the growth of green mass.
As a result, you can get the same problems with the development of shoots, buds, and subsequently - with the harvest.
