Summer residents whose plots have coniferous trees are incredibly lucky, because the needles can be used as a basis for making first-class fertilizer.

The needles contain a lot of useful substances, but that’s not all – they also contain phytoncides, which repel a wide variety of pests.

How to Make Liquid Fertilizer from Pine Needles

To make the fertilizer, you will need to collect the required number of needles, then grind them and throw them into some container, filling it three-quarters full.

Pour water over the pine needles and boil for about 5-10 minutes.

Leave the decoction to infuse for 3 days, then strain and pour into bottles to store the concentrate in a cool, dark place.

How to use coniferous fertilizer

To feed the plants, one part of the extract should be diluted with nine parts of water. The used solution is used for watering strictly under the root.

If there are concerns that fertilizing may increase soil acidity, EM preparations or powdered eggshells can be added to the solution.

For which plants can coniferous fertilizer be used?

Since not all plants tolerate the resins contained in the needles well, coniferous fertilizer is not suitable for all of them.

It can be used to feed rhododendrons, hydrangeas, honeysuckle, blueberries, cranberries and lingonberries, which prefer acidic soil and respond well to liquid pine needle feeding.

Roses, lilies, lavender, tulips, crocuses, hyacinths, primroses, chrysanthemums can also be fertilized with this product.

Zinnias, asters, forget-me-nots, cosmos, calendula and sage also respond well to liquid fertilizing from pine needles.
