Traditionally, potatoes are planted directly in open ground, but there are other methods that significantly speed up the process of growing this crop.
An expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh spoke about seedling methods of growing potatoes.
According to the first method, the gardener needs to cut off part of the tuber, after which he needs to dip the cut into ash to protect against infections, and then the potatoes can be planted in cups.
As a result, you will get seedlings similar to tomato ones.
If you plant potato seedlings at the end of April, then by mid-May, when the return frosts have passed, they can be transplanted to a permanent place in open ground.
The second method is planting using eyes, which need to be separated from the potatoes and dipped in ash before placing them in loose soil. Let us remind you: cups for potato seedlings must have drainage holes.
Then you will need to water the potatoes with a stimulant or willow water to promote rapid root formation.
You can speed up the emergence of seedlings if you maintain the temperature at least +20 degrees. You should also cover the cups with film.
In general, the process is similar to growing any other seedlings.
