Large peony buds that exude an indescribable aroma can turn a plot into a real paradise.
An expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh told how to plant these plants correctly in the spring to achieve exactly this result.
It is worth planting peonies before the warm days of May arrive, since high temperatures prevent the flowers from adapting.
Therefore, you shouldn’t wait until the end of spring – the most suitable period is April or the first half of May, when the soil is still a little cool, but not frozen.
The optimal soil temperature for planting peonies is considered to be +2-7 degrees.
To plant these flowers, choose a well-lit area with good drainage soil. Make sure the area is protected from strong winds.
To prepare the soil for planting peonies, add compost or humus to it to provide the plant with a good nutrient medium.
First, shorten the roots of the peonies to 15-20 cm, then treat them with garden chalk or another antifungal agent.
Then dig a hole in the ground about 5 cm deep and place the plant there so that the roots are completely in the soil.
Carefully fill the hole with soil and tamp it down lightly to avoid the formation of air pockets.
