Experienced gardeners never throw away eggshells, because they are an excellent fertilizer for plants.

An expert of the online publication Belnovosti, agronomist, and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh told which crops benefit from eggshells and how to use them correctly.

What plants love eggshells

This type of fertilizer is loved by crops that prefer neutral and slightly alkaline soils.

These include nightshades (tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, potatoes), brassicas (cabbage, cauliflower, kohlrabi, broccoli), legumes (peas, beans), pumpkins (pumpkin, cucumbers, squash, zucchini), root vegetables (beets, radishes, carrots), onions and greens.

Only raw eggshells are suitable for plant feeding. They must be thoroughly washed, dried and ground to a powdery state.

This fertilizer is stored in a paper bag or box and is applied during annual soil digging or when transplanting seedlings.

You can also prepare an infusion for watering. Pour 50 grams of crushed shells with a liter of boiling water, leave for a week, shaking occasionally. The finished infusion is diluted with three liters of water.

Earlier, the expert told what to sprinkle on the soil so that tomatoes grow sweet.
