If you plant a cherry tree in the wrong place, you may not get a harvest.
An expert of the online publication Belnovosti, agronomist, and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh told us where in the garden you should plant cherries.
Firstly, the cherry tree needs sun; even in dappled shade the tree will grow poorly.
Secondly, cherry is afraid of cold winds and drafts, it is necessary to provide protection.
Thirdly, you cannot plant cherry trees on a site with close groundwater levels. Also, the site should not be flooded by melt water.
If the site is in a lowland, plant the tree on an artificial mound (height – 70 centimeters, diameter – one meter).
As for the soil, it should be light, loose and fertile with a neutral or slightly alkaline reaction (pH 7-7.3).
