Irises, which are distinguished by their sophistication, require special care with the onset of spring.

The key aspects of caring for these flowers were shared by the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh .

Trimming

First of all, it is worth starting to trim old leaves and flower stalks so that the plants direct their energy to the growth of new shoots.

Use sharp pruning shears to remove old, damaged leaves and dead flower stalks, leaving only healthy shoots. To prevent damage to the plant, make a cut at the base of the leaf rosettes before removing unnecessary parts.

Separation

One of the features of irises is the ability to outgrow and lose their decorative qualities. To avoid this, flowers need to be divided. The right time to carry out the procedure is spring, when new shoots are just beginning to appear.

Inspect your irises and select any bushes that seem too dense, then carefully dig them up and divide them into several sections using a sharp knife or garden spade. It is recommended to repeat this procedure every 3 years.

Transfer

To place irises, choose a well-lit and drained place with rich soil.

Once you have found a suitable site, dig a hole slightly larger than the plant's root system. Carefully place the iris into the hole, spreading the roots evenly. Then fill in the soil around the roots, compact it, and water the plant.

Top dressing

Three weeks after the start of flowering, it is recommended to use a homemade fertilizer consisting of 60 g of superphosphate and 30 g of potassium salt.

Apply 15 grams of this mixture under each bush, repeating the procedure every two weeks.

Earlier we talked about what can be planted in the same bed with radishes.
