Tomatoes can burst for a variety of reasons.
According to Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication BelNovosti, an agronomist and landscape designer, such “behavior” of fruits is influenced by such factors as overheating of plants during the day and sudden cooling at night, excessive watering after a long break, fertilizing with mineral fertilizers without preliminary watering, excessive formation of bushes and varietal characteristics.
But, instead of getting to know the reasons for cracking, we suggest you learn how to prevent cracks from appearing on tomatoes. Following a number of simple rules will help you with this.
1. Ventilate the greenhouse during the day and close the doors and vents at night.
2. Water tomatoes regularly, avoiding sudden changes in humidity. In hot and dry weather, the frequency of watering can be increased to once a week.
3. When watering, make sure that the soil is soaked to a depth of 50-60 cm.
4. Try to ensure that water does not get on the leaves, stems and fruits of tomatoes when watering.
5. When applying fertilizers, follow the recommended dosages and avoid excess fertilizers, which can cause cracking of the fruit.
6. Apply liquid fertilizers only after watering. It is better if this procedure is carried out early in the morning or late in the evening.
7. Do not remove more than three lower leaves at a time and do not shape the bush more than once a week.
