You may be wondering why this common garden pest is called a flea beetle. The name probably comes from its powerful hind legs, like those of "real" fleas, which allow them to jump considerable distances.

But it would be much more interesting to know how to get rid of these parasites that infest the garden and vegetable garden. Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist and landscape designer, spoke about methods of combating the cruciferous flea beetle.

First, you need to get rid of the weeds that the cruciferous flea beetle feeds on in natural conditions. These include rapeseed, shepherd's purse, mustard, wild radish, etc.

If you grow cruciferous plants as green manure, it makes sense to replace them with others.

Secondly, since there are frequent cases of cruciferous flea beetles appearing after the application of bread and yeast fertilizers, you should also avoid using them.

And thirdly, try to plant tomatoes, garlic, marigolds and nasturtiums near the beds - their smell repels harmful insects.

Finally, we will give advice: since flea beetles are most active in dry and hot weather, at this time you should increase the frequency of watering, adding a little birch tar or tomato tops infusion to the water. This helps to effectively contain the spread of the pest.
