The exhibition onion, whose bulbs can weigh up to 1 kilogram, is called a real giant in the world of onions (no surprise, right?).

If you want to get exactly this result, you will have to grow the crop through seedlings, reports the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh .

It is worth starting to sow seeds in early spring.

Before this, the seed material must be soaked in water or a damp cloth. It is also useful to treat the seeds with a solution of potassium permanganate (1 g per 1 l of water) for disinfection.

The appropriate soil for exhibition onion seedlings is either a special soil for bulbous plants or a universal soil, which can be purchased at a garden store.

The seeds are planted 1.5 cm deep in the soil, then watered and the container is covered with glass or film to create a greenhouse effect. The container with the seeds is put in a warm, shaded place for about a week until the first sprouts appear.

As soon as the seeds germinate, the container is moved to a well-lit place, removing the improvised “shelter” from it.

For optimal growth of seedlings, it is necessary to maintain a temperature of about +20°C, provide regular watering and fertilizing with mineral fertilizers, and also ventilate the room.

To strengthen the seedlings, they can be taken out onto the balcony, and a couple of weeks before the upcoming planting, outside.

Seedlings should be planted in open ground in May, when frosts are no longer a problem. Planting depth is 2.5-3 cm, distance between plants is 20 by 30 cm.

Earlier, the expert explained why summer residents are not advised to plant thuja on their plots.
