The Dutch can safely be called "pros" in the field of potato growing.

An expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh spoke about one of the successful methods of planting this crop used by farmers in the Netherlands.

It involves preparing the soil for planting potatoes in the fall, when manure, superphosphates and potassium fertilizers are added to the soil during the plowing process.

To plant potatoes, furrows about 6-7 centimeters deep are formed. The tubers are placed in these depressions, which are then covered with soil.

The distance between rows should be about 70 centimeters.

Two weeks after germination, hilling is carried out.

When using this method, three waterings per season are required, the last time ten days after the end of the flowering period. It is also necessary to use weed control and Colorado potato beetle control products.

Before harvesting potatoes, the tops should be mown down and the tubers should be left in the ground for another 10-12 days. This will help to avoid damaging the tubers when digging them up, as during this time the potato skin will become rougher and less susceptible to mechanical stress.

Important! The Dutch method of planting potatoes suggests that root crops can be planted in the same area only once every three years. After that, the soil will be ideal for growing grain crops.
