At the beginning of the year, namely in January, it is recommended to plant plants with a long growth period and those whose seeds require stratification.

An expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh named the crops that fit these criteria.

So, one of such crops is root celery. It needs a long period for the development of root crops, which is approximately 6 months.

The seedlings should be 2.5 months old when planted in the ground, plus a few more weeks for germination.

Thus, if we are talking about the middle zone, then, counting 3 months from May 1, we get the date of sowing seeds - the very end of January.

Root celery is not the only crop that can be grown in the first month of the new year.

If we talk about garden strawberries, the timing of their sowing depends on when you plan to start growing seedlings in the ground.

If you plan to get the first berries this season, you will have to start sowing seeds in December-January and planting seedlings in the spring.

If you are planning to plant the bushes in a garden bed in the summer months, March, April or even May are suitable for sowing seeds. True, you won’t be able to get berries this season, but the bushes will take root well and lay the harvest for the next year.

Earlier we told you what you need to add to get a bucket of cucumbers from a bush.
