How to care for spathiphyllum in winter: a step-by-step plan from experienced gardeners

In winter, spathiphyllum, or as it is also called, women's happiness, needs special care that will help the plant survive the cold season.

In this regard, the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh compiled a whole list of actions that need to be taken in this case.

1. Make sure the plant has adequate lighting – the light should be bright but diffused, as direct sunlight can cause leaf burn.

2. Maintain a moderately warm temperature in the room with the flower, protect it from temperature changes, drafts and proximity to heating devices.

3. Provide sufficient air humidity, which can be achieved by spraying water around the spathiphyllum or using a humidifier.

4. Watering during this period should be moderate and regular. Despite the fact that the frequency of watering is reduced, you should not allow the soil lump to dry out, however, as well as the accumulation of water in the tray.

5. Fertilizing should also be reduced in winter – use a moderate amount of low-nitrogen fertilizer for the plant every 6-8 weeks.

6. Continue to monitor for pests and diseases. Of particular danger to spathiphyllum are aphids or spider mites, as well as root rot.

7. Clean the leaves with a damp sponge or soft cloth.

8. If you notice wilted parts on the plant, they need to be removed in order to, firstly, improve the appearance of the flower, and secondly, help it direct energy to healthy parts.

9. Give your spathiphyllum a rest period. During this time, its growth may slow down, which is normal.

10. Carefully monitor the plant's reaction, as each flower is unique and its needs may sometimes change.
