Still think that buying a suitable pot for a houseplant is easy? Let me dissuade you.
In the "wrong" container, the flower will feel bad, which means that you can forget about lush greenery and bright flowering. Therefore, when choosing a flowerpot, the expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh first of all advises to pay attention to the material.
Unglazed ceramics are considered the best material for making flower pots, because they allow the roots to breathe and the moisture to evaporate evenly. In addition, ceramic pots are quite heavy, which is important for plants with a high and lush top.
But there are some downsides – such a purchase will cost you a pretty penny. Moreover, you will probably have to spend money more than once, because ceramic pots are very fragile, and over time they develop unsightly stains, which, alas, are almost impossible to clean.
Let's play it "trump card": plastic pots are inexpensive, durable and long-lasting, they do not deteriorate from contact with soil and fertilizers and are easy to care for.
In addition, plastic flowerpots have smooth side surfaces, unlike ceramic ones, to which plant roots stick, causing them to become injured during transplantation.
But unfortunately, plastic does not have the ability to "breathe", which makes the climate in such a flowerpot not the most favorable. Since thin plastic is usually used in the production of containers for indoor flowers, it can be deformed by the powerful root system of some plants. In addition, the soil in such pots quickly overheats and cools down.
Glass pots only make sense for growing orchids and some succulents.
Glass is not good for other plants – the light can cause bacteria to multiply in the soil. In addition, the material is fragile and can become cloudy due to the presence of mineral salts.
Earlier, the expert shared her opinion on where it is better to plant peonies – in the shade or in the sun.
