If you have not taken care to protect the trunks of fruit trees for the winter, it is likely that over time you will notice frost cracks on them.

As the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh says, trees with smooth and dark bark are most susceptible to such damage.

Another condition is intense exposure to sunlight.

Because the bark heats up in the sun, and after the sun goes down the temperature drops, cracks appear.

What is dangerous about this phenomenon?

Various viruses, as well as bacteria and fungal spores, can penetrate deep wounds on the trunk, which, in turn, leads to the development of various kinds of diseases.

As a result, the apple or pear tree stops growing, starts to get sick often, and sometimes even dies.

The main thing you can do to protect fruit trees from frost cracks and wounds is to take the necessary care measures and apply a protective whitewash to the trunks of the plants.
