Any gardener will be upset if he grows small and tasteless beets.

After all, every summer resident who grows this garden crop expects to get huge and sweet root crops.

In addition, it is desirable that the harvested crop be stored for a very long time.

An expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh shared three secrets of increasing the size, as well as increasing the sweetness and shelf life of root crops.

Landing place

The chances of getting a good beet harvest will increase if the gardener chooses the right place to plant the plant.

It is desirable that the garden crop is not located in the shade, but in an area that is well lit by the sun for at least 8 hours a day.

Lack of cramped conditions

Beets do not like not only shade, but also lack of space.

Therefore, the “gaps” between rows should be significant: at least 25 cm.

You also need to make sure that there is at least 10 cm of space between plants.

Secret feeding

At the end of July or in August, you need to replenish the potassium deficiency in the soil in the beet bed.

The ideal option is wood ash, which is rich in potassium.

In a bucket, almost the entire volume of which is occupied by clean water, you need to pour a glass of unburned wood residue and a tablespoon of sodium chloride.

In exactly half a day the fertilizer will be ready. This liquid should be used to water the beet bed.

There is another important fertilizer for beets. We are talking about boric acid (a tablespoon per 0.3 l of water). The resulting liquid should be diluted with a bucket of water. Beets should be periodically doused with drops of this solution. The result will be an increase in the sweetness of root crops.
