Geranium is one of the most durable flowers on the windowsill. It blooms all year round and does not require any special skills in care from the gardener.

But there are moments, not knowing about which you can, if not ruin an unpretentious flower, then not in the best way influence its development and flowering.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, told whether it is possible to prune geraniums in winter.

In a nutshell, it is not recommended.

Even if the geranium stretches out over the winter, it is not recommended to prune indoor plants at this time, nor to pinch off the tops.

The plant is in a state of rest or dormancy, and it is better to carry out such procedures in advance, in the fall, for example.

You can start trimming the bush at the end of February, but the procedure can be called harmless only if ideal conditions for the growth of pelargonium are created.

Therefore, it will be easier to wait until early spring.

In this case, pruning is mandatory.

By removing excess shoots over the winter, you can stimulate the growth of healthy young shoots, as well as the formation of flower stalks.

This procedure should be scheduled for early March.
