Many beneficial properties for soil and plants can be extracted from food waste if you learn how to manage it wisely.

For example, potato peelings are placed under currant bushes, infusions are made from banana peels, and eggshells are generally worth their weight in gold in the dacha environment.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, told how to use onion peels.

Onion peel plays an important role in the food chain. At the very least, it is a natural food coloring, but its beneficial properties do not end there.

Here's what you need to do to use this waste to provide yourself with a harvest.

1. Onion peel will help repel many insect pests, acting as a natural insecticide.

The best thing about this case is that it is completely harmless to the harvest of fruit and vegetable crops.

2. But more often onion peels are used as fertilizer.

To do this, you need to take one good handful of husks, place it in a saucepan or pour two liters of boiling water over it.

Place on fire and let simmer on low heat for 5-7 minutes.

The resulting concentrate must be diluted with clean water in a ratio of 1:5.

It is used for feeding plants, including indoor plants (but you need to know the concentration), as well as for fighting insect pests.

3. The easiest option is to bury the husks in the soil in late autumn.

By spring it will rot and saturate the soil with useful substances, which will ensure a rich harvest.
