Quick and Easy: How to Make Drainage Holes in a Hundred Plastic Seedling Cups

15.11.2023 17:41

Many summer residents are accustomed to growing seedlings using disposable plastic cups.

According to the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , such a solution has many advantages.

For example, in transparent containers, a plant grower has the opportunity to observe the roots of plants and also control the humidity level.

However, before filling the cups with soil, it is necessary to make holes in them for drainage, on average 5-6 pieces.

This can be done in different ways.

You can make holes in the plastic bottom using scissors - first hold the blades over the flame coming from the burner of a gas stove.

The downside of this method is that the scissors cool down very quickly. But the nail can retain heat much longer, so you can clamp it in pliers, heat it up and use it as a "hole punch".

Finally, if you have an awl in your arsenal, you can use it for this activity. The awl is comfortable to hold in your hand thanks to its handle, and its needle is sharp.
