Some plants spend the winter with great pleasure on the balconies of city apartments.

It is important that the room is glazed and at least somewhat insulated. This applies to annual and perennial ornamental plants and even succulents.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, told us which plants can remain on the balcony for the winter.

Annuals

There is no point in taking these plants into a warm room at all. Therefore, nasturtiums, zinnias, asters, marigolds and other flowers can live out their lives in the cool.

The exception is when the plants are blooming and there are no signs of wilting.

Exotic plants

Oleander and datura, European olive, as well as citrus fruits and palms are removed to warm places before the onset of even unstable frosts.

They stay for the winter

It’s not that they are completely immune to the cold, but they are distinguished by their resistance against the background of other ornamental crops: camellias, hellebore, cyclamen, winter jasmine and heather.

Even cacti can tolerate low temperatures.

But lilies, calla lilies and amaryllis can be removed to the balcony, but only after pruning.

Coniferous plants, as well as ivy and bamboo, will become a real decoration for a winter balcony.

It is worth remembering that in addition to low temperatures, flowers need to be protected from drafts.
