Succulents are the best choice for those people who would like to bring a piece of living nature into their home, but at the same time are not at all eager to mess around with indoor plants.

However, even such “green pets” can make their owner worry, so the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh suggested figuring out what problems in care can be encountered by those who grow succulents.

Firstly, problems can arise due to insect pests. Succulents can be attacked by spider mites, scale insects, whiteflies and aphids, and in the early stages – also by mealybugs.

Secondly, like any other plants, succulents can get sick. Let's look at this point in more detail.

One of the diseases that you may theoretically encounter is verticillium wilt. The spores of this soil fungus can affect plants "from the inside", resulting in the death of the root system, and then the above-ground part of the flower.

In addition, succulents are susceptible to rot, which comes in two types - rosette or root. Its development is caused by factors such as low temperatures and excessive watering.

Another affliction to be wary of is fusarium or dry rot, which affects roots, leaves and stems. If you managed to “detect” the disease at the very beginning of its development, fungicides will help out.

And thirdly: if you notice that your succulent's stem has stretched out, it means that it is experiencing an acute lack of light. Prune it and give the flower a month of rest - perhaps this will solve the problem.
