Thanks to breeders who have developed frost-resistant varieties of peach, these trees can be grown not only in the south.
However, this does not eliminate the need to cover the plant for the winter, reminds the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh .
When should you start the procedure? The specialist recommends finishing the covering work before the first frosts – usually before the beginning of November.
Before this, do not forget to feed the plant using phosphate fertilizer, and also treat the peach with a fungicide.
To do this, you will have to make a “hut” out of boards above the tree, thanks to which air will circulate freely inside the structure.
To cover the hut from above, you can use agrofibre or cotton fabric, but not polyethylene film – its use is prohibited.
To cover the roots of the peach tree, use spruce branches.
Another important point: when spring comes, you will need to make a small hole in the shelter. If you forget about this procedure, there is a high risk of fungus developing inside.
