Red burn is the “popular” name for such a dangerous fungal disease as stagonosporosis.

According to the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , the disease affects exclusively bulbous plants, for example, hippeastrum.

How to recognize stagonosporosis? The following distinctive signs will help you:

  • the scales of the bulb turn red and then rot;
  • red narrow spots appear on the leaves and flower stalks;
  • leaves and flower stalks are deformed.

The probable reason why your flower ended up on the list of diseased ones is overwatering, temperature fluctuations, or bulb injuries during planting.

Unfortunately, it often happens that a gardener has purchased an already sick plant.

If you intend to fight for the “life” of your green pet to the end, you will have to first remove the bulb from the pot.

Arm yourself with a sharp knife and use it to cut out damaged areas and old scales, then treat it in a solution of a systemic fungicide or a copper-containing preparation.
