Many summer residents whitewash trees only in the spring. However, it is worth doing the procedure in the fall.

It is advisable to do this in the second half of this time of year, after the leaves have fallen and the period of frequent rains has ended.

It is necessary to apply whitewash to the trunks of woody plants in October or November to achieve several goals.

An expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh spoke about them.

Why whitewash trees in autumn

Firstly, the procedure will provide the bark with protection from temperature changes.

Secondly, thanks to whitewashing, the plant will become much less vulnerable to pests.

Thirdly, the composition applied to the trunk will protect the tree from reflected sunlight.

The last point needs special attention: in winter, there will most likely be a lot of snow on the ground. The rays will be reflected from this white surface.

The problem will worsen at the beginning of the calendar spring, when the snow cover will still remain and the number of sunny days will clearly increase.

Thus, autumn whitewashing is especially necessary if the summer resident is not sure that he will have the opportunity to visit his country plot in February or in the first days of March.

As a whitewashing composition, you can use lime mortar. But if the procedure is carried out in early autumn, it is better to use water-based paint, which will not cause any harm even during rainy periods.
