Timely harvesting is an important condition for the beets to be ripe and stored well.

Therefore, it is worth knowing how to correctly determine this important moment.

As a rule, it is worth paying attention to some characteristic signs, says landscape designer and agronomist Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti".

What should you pay attention to?

Deadlines

It is very easy to determine the harvest date according to the variety of the root crop. However, to do this, you need to keep a crop log, since the final date will depend on the time of planting.

As a rule, early varieties can be harvested after 50 days. Sometimes, of course, you have to wait up to 80 days.

You have to wait up to a hundred days for mid-season beets. But for late varieties it takes up to 120 days.

Foliage

It is extremely easy to determine the degree of readiness of beets by the appearance of the tops. As a rule, the lower part of the leaves turns yellow, and the tops themselves spread out on the ground.

Once you notice this sign, you have 6-7 days left to harvest the beets.

Crown

As a rule, closer to harvest time, you can already evaluate the "tops" of the beets. In a ripe vegetable, it looks impressive, as if with growths.
