August is a hot time in terms of caring for garden crops - bushes and berries. Strawberries are no exception in this list.

In order to have something to collect in the new season next year, you need to plan three important things.

An expert of the online publication BelNovosti, a scientist agronomist, landscape designer, botanical artist, and art therapist Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, told summer residents how to care for strawberries in August.

1. Trimming the mustache

You need to start by removing the whiskers and the resulting rosettes. This procedure is performed in three stages.

The first had to be done after the berry bushes had fruited.

The second pruning is carried out 20 days after the first pruning, and the third after another 20 days.

Remove the shoots, leaving a shoot of about 10 cm. The tendrils with rosettes can be left for breeding the variety.

2. Treatment against pests and diseases

At the end of summer, there are no fewer threats to strawberries in this regard. Even if the berry is not sick, it will not hurt to treat it against fungus, powdery mildew and pests.

The following preparations are used: Actellic, Karbofos, Topaz and Azozen.

3. Feed

After all this, you can add a portion of fertilizer so that the berry bush can survive the winter without incident.

Nitrogen fertilizers except urea are excluded. A strong solution is used as a means of combating fungus.

Mineral complexes, ready-made fertilizers for strawberries, and organic matter are added.

In the latter case, humus and peat, granulated horse manure, and bone meal are added.

But rotted bird droppings contain a lot of nitrogen and therefore should not be added.
